Last night, my sweet orloff hen, Norman, was found lying dead on the coop floor. She didn't look injured and we couldn't smell anything like we did when Buffy got a disease. We recently integrated nine young pullets into the flock, but there hasn't been any problems with the integration. We have all hens. We found an egg under Norman's body, so we think there could be a possibility that she had an egg stuck in her. But, we also hear that birds just falling down dead is a symptom of bird flu. We have 27 chickens who are all loved dearly. Do any of you guys know what happened to Norman? If so, are the other birds in danger?

Thank you for any help or advise you can give,

You could refrigerate Norman's body and ship it or take it to your state vet for a necropsy. The state vet could also talk to you about AI, in case they have had any reorted cases. More than like, it was something other than AI. but they could look for the cause. New chickens should never be added to an existing flock without being quarantined for a minimum of 30 days, since your flock can become ill or carriers of disease. Here is a link for you: http://www.usaha.org/Portals/6/StateAnimalHealthOfficials.pdf

Alright, thanks for your help!
