awkward walking chicken

Here is a pic of her feet.

She may have some internal problem with her reproductive organs such as egg yolk peritonits or internal laying. Cancer is also common. I had a hen recently with suspected EYP who also had a funny gait, and would lift up her legs more than likely from pain.

Well an update... she looks the same no better no worse. Her walking hasn't improved but she still gets around. She has not laid an egg the whole time she has been inside now. I am not sure what to think. Her symptoms don't seem match up to anything 100%. I am just going to continue watching her and when the weather breaks here reintroduce her back to the flock. She is eating and drinking just fine. Thank you guys for all the advice!!!

Sorry that you haven't found an answer. I would still wonder if she has Mareks disease because of her gait, and leg weakness. Please update us with any news on her later. Good luck with her.

Well my barred rock does seem to be worse this morning. I looked up some you tube videos of chickens with Marek's and it does appear this is what she has. So my question is cull or try the St. John's wort treatment? Also what are the odds of all the others coming down with this now?

Have you read any of this thread? https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/741957/not-an-emergency-mareks-in-the-flock You can post questions and many on this thread have great experience with Mareks. Culling is a personal choice. I would cull if she was in pain and appeared uncomfortable, or if I could not take care of her properly. Your other chickens may also get it, but there may be some who will be carriers, but may not show symptoms. It can be in the environment for 7 or more years, so vaccination and 2 week quarantine of any new chicks is necessary. Here is another article by Nambroth that is good, plus a link that shows pictures of Mareks symptom:

We had to cull the rir even though she appeared to be better her weight and energy just wasn't coming back. I work in a pathology office. I brought her in and took a look her lungs were filled with fungus. Is it possible my BR could have a severe fungal infection instead of Marek's? We have had a year of extreme rain. The ground here is almost sour. There is no fungus in the coop that I can see. Any thoughts please.
