I'm looking for a chicken to put with my ayam cemani rooster. He's still young (5 months) but my hen had to be culled. So I'm looking for another chicken to put with him because my barred rock & silver laced wyandottes aren't nice to him. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type I should put with him? I would like to get another ayam but they are just so expensive

The first question is: are you planning on breeding him?
Question #2: Will he be the only rooster in the flock?
Question #3: Are you looking for a hen who will tolerate his mating, or some chickens to keep him company, or both?

Both, but I was planning on breeding him with our hen. Yes, he will be the only rooster in that coop

In my experience with my hens, I have found Easter Eggers, Leghorns, and ISA Browns to be the most submissive to roosters, and the friendliest.
I wouldn't recommend Leghorns for your rooster, because they are usually too small for most roosters.
Buff Orpingtons are also very friendly birds. I am not sure how well they will tolerate a rooster, though.
Of course, all of these breeds are higher production laying breeds, so if you want eggs, these would be a good choice.

In brief I recommend Easter Egger, ISA Brown, and Buff Orpington hens from experience.

Why did you have to cull the hen/pullet?
Was she also 5 months like your cockerel?
Young cockerel can be hard to integrate with other birds,
because only one thing on their hormone driven minds.

I'm also interested why the hen was culled?
