Who here, has raised and hatched their own Ayam Cemani? I’m very interest in possibly getting this type of Bird, but would like more info. We currently only have Bresse. I don’t plan on crossbreeding right away.

They are lovely birds look wise. They don't lay a ton of egg though. They go broody. The eggs are not huge. They are flighty also. I have hatched one, adopted one, (pures) then I also had mixes.

That’s some info alright! Lol, not what I was hoping to hear, BUT I still would love one for looks. Where do you recommend getting eggs?

I just ordered a half dozen from Hilltop farms. Hopefully they don't get scrambled in the mail. I'll post in the incubation forum when they arrive and share what I see from the seller.

I have a pair here that are my daughters pets. We hatched them about a year ago. They are very tame and quite pretty. The hen lays sporadically but hasn’t ever gone broody. Mine are not really flighty at all… in fact they’re pretty much the only birds I have that don’t just fly out of a fenced area😂 I have some crossed chicks now that are about a month old. I’ll be excited to see how they look grown.

Not everyone breeds fir the same thing. So make sure to ask questions to the person you buy them from. Too many people just bought sub par chicks to raise up and make money when they saw them selling for hundreds a few years ago. Make sure the person is a member of the Ayam cenami breeder association if here in the US. That way you know they have to be legit enough to be accountable by some by laws on the ACBA. Ask them what they are breeding for in their birds. And what faults are they trying to breed out. I personally am very small hobby breeder that am currently trying to get more actual Indonesian gamebird body type and feather instead of the European look you see out there so prolifically here in the US.
I’m in Missouri. Tina
