I'm reading "The broken spears" an account of the conquest of mexico from the Indian perspective. There are two passages in the book where they talk about the Indians giving the Spaniards eggs and live hens. Just wondering what kind of birds were kept by the Aztecs back in 1519?

I am sure this has nothing to do with your question but this is a statue of an Aztec rooster. all the statues I have seen are colorful.

From what I just read the Aztecs did not have chickens they had turkey's and other birds but chickens were introduced to them by the spainards

That makes sense. They were probably black Mexican turkey hens. Thanks!
