Azure Blue

The rooster likely taught them that. Might be time to get a new ROO! I have no experience with egg eating. What I read is it's a bad and hard thing to stop unless you cull. Hopefully the roll away idea works. You should check other threads regarding egg eating. Maybe they need a higher protein feed for the winter.
I believe that, he’s an instigator that one. But soo gorgeous and sweet. I really hope it doesn’t come to culling him or rehoming.

My hens are laying under the patio away from him now, but unfortunately it’s away from my reach also. The roll away nest boxes for the silkies aren’t quite complete but I hope they will be soon. The blue azures got a milk crate up high on the wall and they haven’t yet paid any attention to it.

I’m seriously considering rehoming them. They are so mean and nasty to the smaller silkies, they pecked a hole through one on the back of the head the other day. Nothing some polysporin and rest away from the others couldn’t fix, but it’s scary!

Oh the woes of chicken parenting! Lol

My Azures were mean as well. Now they have stopped that after they all started laying. Must have been a hormonal thing. everyone gets along now.
Good to know, I think two out of three laying now. I found a soft shell under the roost yesterday morning, I believe that’s the second hens first egg. The first one that started laying seems to be testing all the spots around the garden to lay, this morning I found her in a bucket with water in the bottom, she laid her egg there.

Yes I’ve found many soft shelled eggs from the Asures. I have an Eglu. Cube and many mornings I find 1 egg was laid over night on the roosting bars. If these chickens were roosting on a regular elevated bar I’d have many broken eggs. Seems like one of them cycles in the night for a week and then transitions to day time laying.

I just got a few also, but they are just three weeks old. Mine are getting a lot of black spots in their feathering, I expected an all yellow chick that would turn white. Anyone else have azure blues with black spots?
I have 1 blue azure and 4 other chickens. We got them as chicks. The blue azure has black spots! She is more jumpy then the others, yet because the others are different breeds sue has learned to trust us more.
She was laying light blue eggs! She is full of character and one of my favorites! She is the boss.
Recently she stopped laying.. its been over a week no eggs from her.
She is acting the same and still eating and exploring. We will give her time!
Good luck with your azures!
