Rudy, I understand your point. I did enter my other roo, Lucky, in the Heirloom Expo show. He didn't place but at least people got to see a Dorking. This roo, I really don't like, but I keep him for back up. Michelle (?) is right, he's too upright. He reminds me of a squirrel! I doubt he's better than what you have! Rudy, you have the knowledge to do something with him. This bird was from the last of Superior Farms SGDs, before they closed. Dick Horstman told me that he took all the really nice ones. So, he might have the same genetics and needs someone who can breed and cull on a larger scale than I can.
The problem is, I need to keep him unless I know for sure that I'm getting a roo from CR at Crossroads. My transporter is also 2 hours from here.
Here's some more photos, so you can see what I mean.

Yes, a squirrel.

That big ol' tail (although mine doesn't really have much of a tail since the girls got to him.

) is incredible. If only you could stretch him out and mold him, right?

I have a couple of young boys that aren't as flat a cinder block as my Junior is. I will give Junior one more year to prove his manliness, and if we're still lacking in fertile eggs, then the best of the babies will go in with the girls.

In my absoutely unprofesional view... he is beautiful! But then... he IS a Dorking!

This is my first venture into "dorking land." I love, love, love the breed. Bought a dozen eggs and got (only) 1 gorgeous baby, but thrilled to have her.

Call me "mother"

The side profile is much more telling

I still say I'd rather have your Silver than mine. My Reds than your silver, but your silver than mine

And as AK says, just think if you could mold him and put him just like you want him...But that's what breeding is all about.

Rudy, not saying it wouldn't be a bit of work but you could use those grand typed reds with your silver cock. Though it could be easier to find a breeder of good silvers and go that route. If doing a color cross probably more fun when the birds have type. Off topic but I see you have CL Ice which were not pictured on your website. Any chance they are barless/white bar/spangle or the much more usual barred/check? The CL from Europe are wonderful; problem is they are still there. Dave

But to do that cross, you really need a good silver cockbird. That makes it much faster. I have good Red males, but that cross on Silver females gives me red females and mixed up males. I want silver females and mixed up males

My Ice are just regular barred and checked. I have one barless but that is a project for next year.

Rudy, looking at pics of your birds on your website, i'm wondering... are the red dorkings basically the same color genetics as the partridge wyandottes? they look a lot alike color-wise. i'm still trying to nail down the color genetics in my head and can find them for some breeds/colors but not others. i hadn't really looked, i was thinking reds were like RIR red...

That's the problem with doing the cross with the red cocks and silver hens. As you've said not real useful when silver is what you're after. Since there are good silvers around using good type and quality does seem the way to go, color cross or not. Thanks for the reply about the Ice. That's what I figured but you never know for sure just what someone might have in their back yard. Dave
