B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

I'm interested in Dorking hens. I'd like to breed them for their meat- I hear they are one of the best birds for meat. I have a Freedom Ranger rooster and wondered what crossing Dorkings with FRs would produce.

Was the name of the retiree to whom this stock originally belonged Janine Peters?

Haven't seen her in some years but she's not all that old. Last I knew she didn't have whites either but that could have changed. One Dorking variety leads to another and to another...and she has a good place to raise them. darn videos won't load but hope to see them later.

I am at the Ohio National as well and saw the Dorkings there. The white Dorkings were rose comb and the not a real great Dorking, but you just really dont see whites much at shows. The Reds weren't bad, this was the girls first year to breed them and as she started out with such few birds she just bred what she had. Although she is a young girl she seemed like she would continue to breed them and try to improve the stock she had.

Yes, at least there were Dorkings there. She seems to take pretty good care of her birds as I saw her feeding and watering them more than once in the short time we were there.

I didn't get the impression that she bred the birds she was showing. She told me they were old and she got them from a retired breeder. She wasn't sure she would have hatching eggs due to the fact.

I think it's great to see that people entered some Dorkings!

honestly, the breed is rare enough, it needs people breeding pure dorkings, not crossing them with something else...

I've had accidental crosses of Buckeyes x Dorkings and prefer the pure Dorking. Joseph explained (somewhere) that crossing adversely affects meat qualities. I'm raising one faster maturing breed in addition to the Dorking but will not cross them. Instead, I will enjoy each for it's own qualities.

ki4got- your video wouldn't load for me.

Actually, she did breed the cockerel. The hens and cocks were what she acquired.
