well, the hubby was previously in the doghouse for failing to get me a christmas present in time (everything i wanted was sold out today when he went out last minute...

Another 3 Dorkings out, definitely 2 pullets, probably 3 but number 3 hasn't dried off properly yet. One last egg due now but it hasn't pipped yet.

Have a number of eggs still cooking and one hen has gone broody so I'm letting her sit. One hen has gone into moult, not sure what's going on there, it's only early summer.

The old books would say to cull her but with only three hens I'll just note it for future reference. So only one layer at the moment, oh well, I'll keep hatching anyway.

congrats on the babies, that's always the best christmas present IMO.

good luck on hatching more. I'm still getting clears right now. the roo isn't doing his job obviously. i'll give him another week before i take away his 'little' girls. (he likes the bantams better I think)

I've got some bantam cochin eggs coming in after the 1st, so i'll start setting the dorkings then. might see what happens with some of the bantam eggs. that'd be an interesting project. i've got silver duckwing oegb, brahma (dark and buff), rir, red cochin and quail d'anvers bantams in with him and his girls, only because my breeding pens aren't done and i'm tired of the bantams hiding their eggs who-knows-where. my bantam roos are unhappy because all they have for company now are the babies.

Still looking for white dorking hatching eggs , been looking for about a year now , would prefer then in the South east to cut down shipping time ,, havn't had very much luck with long shipped eggs .

Dorkings of any color can be difficult to find, so you have to be flexible and patient if you want to raise them.

Yellow House Farm has Whites. I think Ed Hart does, also. If you join the Dorking Club, you will get a directory of breeders.

Well, Dick, I'm certainly glad that you have them, for your reputation proceeds you. They are in good hands....and perhaps only in your hands.

Have you considered outcrossing them to large fowl to then pull them back down?
