B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

I'll take 32 off your hands. I really like this width of body. I weigh all my birds. If they don't make the weight they are in the pot.

Thought I'd give an update. It’s the day of reckoning for a bunch of Dorkings here on the farm. We have to get down to 6 or so white roosters and about the same number of white hens. Have 2 black roosters picked out but wow do they need help. For now very few hens (white or black) will get culled because we need egg layers. The hens are all separated and getting along pretty well. The white rooster culls need to be taken off to the butcher now because they are wanting to fight especially now that they have been put into their new coop for some reason.

The new coop has birds in it but most are going away tomorrow….In a few days we finally get to taste some Dorking meat and finally get to see for ourselves what all the hype is about.

Wish we would have been set up a little better when we the whites came in but how can you not go after what you want when it’s available and so rare?

Will take more pics soon. Got a new card reader ordered and finally found our USB cord for the camera so i can post pics that have been taken with a camera and not a phone.... Will be much easier to take pictures of the best birds then to try and get 40 birds photographed. I'll try and upload a video we took of the new coop today.

Looking like a pretty mean facility, there, greenhorn. I'm awefully glad you're working with the whites.

How awesome... Very nice!

Hey thank you pysankigirl, Yellow House and Rockashelle. Took way longer than I was hoping to finish. We are still insulating and then will be covering the insulated outer walls with OSB (chip board) to keep the draft down. The birds will be very happy.

Yellow House we are so happy with the whites, can't thank you enough. We culled down to 4 white roosters, 1 from each clan and they each have their own 10x10 coop with a 10x26 run til spring. Next year we should be over run with White Dorkings hehe.

On my way to the butcher this morning. When we get back I'll take some pics of the remaining birds. When it came down to it the biggest birds seemed to have the best shape. We did get a small one with almost perfect shape but too small and had a rusty sheen. I kept one that has some gray under his wings and a hint of black just slightly on his tail. His size and shape were the determining factors. The other roosters in that clan were too small and couldn't compare. Anyway pics will help describe better so I'll wait til we post some to go further in that direction.

Have to say we are very stoked and looking forward to working with your White Dorkings for years to come. I think we got a good rooster from each clan and two are quite nice ones. I think we ordered just enough to get a good start but we may order more if you release White Dorkings again next year. We still have to decide which hens we are going to use and thin them out. They just started laying small white eggs a couple weeks ago. Waiting for the rest to come in. Can't wait to start hatching come Spring.
