Personally I love both breeds. My Aussie girls are super friendly and lay well. My roo loves to be held and carried around if someone is outside, and he is not foraging. I love the sheen that shines on them. It makes them more than just a back bird.I'm considering setting my focus on dorkings. Right now, I just have a variety of chickens, and some chickens with variety. I'd like to contribute to and learn a specific breed well, so I'm at this point mainly considering Dorking or Black Australorps. Can anyone with experience with both breeds give me any comparisons between the two? I have a few australorps, but haven't owned dorkings. I think they're beautiful and have great dispositions, and appreciate the variety of color. I love australorps, but not so much a variety here.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
My Dorkings do not lay as many eggs, but are kind. Their eggs are just as delicious. Our roo is also a sweetie. when he was younger we did have some issues with him, but i believe in training your chickens and working with them. He is awesome now. We keep Dorkings mainly for meat. The breast meat is always plump and juicy for such a small bird.
Hope this helps.
