B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

I'm considering setting my focus on dorkings. Right now, I just have a variety of chickens, and some chickens with variety. I'd like to contribute to and learn a specific breed well, so I'm at this point mainly considering Dorking or Black Australorps. Can anyone with experience with both breeds give me any comparisons between the two? I have a few australorps, but haven't owned dorkings. I think they're beautiful and have great dispositions, and appreciate the variety of color. I love australorps, but not so much a variety here.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
Personally I love both breeds. My Aussie girls are super friendly and lay well. My roo loves to be held and carried around if someone is outside, and he is not foraging. I love the sheen that shines on them. It makes them more than just a back bird.

My Dorkings do not lay as many eggs, but are kind. Their eggs are just as delicious. Our roo is also a sweetie. when he was younger we did have some issues with him, but i believe in training your chickens and working with them. He is awesome now. We keep Dorkings mainly for meat. The breast meat is always plump and juicy for such a small bird.

Hope this helps.

Funny thing, after my answer was given in my last post, I walked out of the door to find one Australorp girl and one Dorking girl waiting for me on the step. That has never happened before.

By the way we have Silver Gray Dorkings. I love the look of the red. Also I would like to mention that this breed is not always easy to find, and is the exact reason to raise and breed them. Unless you have another reason for keeping good stock; please aid in the perservation of a good breed that is somewhat rare.

Ok, these rare birds are hard to find!

Can anyone direct me to a source that sells show quality silver dorkings and even red dorkings???

Thank you!!!
If you drive to Guinda California, @capayvalleychick has very nice Silver Gray Dorkings!

"show quality" is likely going to be an even harder find, but you can find breeders working towards that goal. I've been at it for a number of years now, and while I like the type I'm getting, they're still not up to SOP weights.
