B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

Has anyone had an SGD hen without salmon breast feathers? She is from Sand Hill. Gray back markings are typical for SGD. We love our four girls but need a roo. I had to order chicks from Murray McMurray to get boys, so no chicks til next year.

My flock is still a bit young, only 16 weeks, but a few of my girls are showing as much or more white in their breast feathers than they are salmon. I'm finally beginning to realize just how much work it's going to be to work to improve these birds.

This is Ollie. I'm hoping Ollie is a hen, but I'm not sure.

Ollie looks like a boy to me, from the fact that he seems to be feathering in black. Females are a ruddy gray color with a salmon breast. Looking closely at his breast feathers would tell you for sure. If they're lightly colored (red, salmon, even tan), Ollie is a girl. If they are dark, nearly or completely black, it's a boy!
