B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

Let me just ask the Dorking pro's :
should I brood the Chick's in the hen house or in with us in say the bathroom where they are safe and can be watched closely until they get bigger..or (!) Make this choice if we still have freezing cold weather?
i would brood inside until the weather's good enough to turn out (or if you have a smallish house you can put heat in for them) and keep them separated from your older birds, but close enough they can get to know each other thru wire...

well, not having extra pens, i brood inside, then move outside and free range as soon as they've been outside a few weeks... htat gives the older birds time to get to know them, so they don't get chased or pecked. unfortunately, between the weather and predators (and 1 being stepped on by a horse...), my 20 mille fleur cochins are down to 6... but hopefully by the time i have another large group of chicks, i'll have my breeding pens done, and 1 will be dedicated to babies only.

Is it appropriate to advertise Dorkings for sale on this thread or are we supposed to go to another area of BYC?

Seems like a good place to advertise to me! I have no objection to it. :D

i'd say if you do post what you've got, ask responses to PM you rather than clog up the thread...

idk someone on another breed thread just like this one just got banned for saying they had a breed and would have some for-sale later on... so i guess if it is against the rules pro if no one reported it u would be fine... but if someone reports u then u are in trouble...

What I've noticed is that people tend to post in the "for sale" area, and then quietly announced that they had done so in the appopriate thread to give those who might be interested the opportunity to take advantage of the possibility, which seems like correct action to me.

I hope no one on this thread would do anything so petty as "reporting" another member. How vile. We're not an unruly crew of of middle schoolers after all.

i doubt anyone would get banned for one post... and the concensus says no biggie from what i can see.

as long as they don't carry on the sales in the thread. i've posted before that i've had chicks/birds available without a problem.
