I was thinking that sounds like an idea for me, since I was leaving a gap between the front wall/doors and the floor frame (raised houses) during colder months maybe.

just a bit more to do and the first one will be done! then I work on adding the second group to it.



eventually it will be a 2x4 configuration

it's been in the planning stages since last fall but health issues kept me from pursuing it. predator issues have put my health issues on a back burner for a bit LOL that and hubby bought me a new circular saw and drill. LOL and I bought myself a small air compressor.

Hmmmmm to my inexperienced eye, I think it looks like at least 2 or 3 females and at least 1 definite male, the one with his back to us... a few are hard to tell for sure from this angle, and I've certainly been wrong myself... Hard to be patient till those breast feathers come in, eh???

Yes, you can sex them a hatch, but it's not quite 100%... you can google "sexing day old dorkings" and there will be some comparative pictures. Feathersite also has a couple pictures to show it. Basically the females will have a much darker, sharply defined dark stripe on top of their heads where males will have a lighter, more poorly defined stripe. Some people also feel like the eyeliner stripe on the side of the head is darker on females and lighter to non-existent on males. I have been surprised by at least one or two myself and my numbers are still small, although I am still learning myself...

I'm guessing mostly females on the left, looks like a male on the right behind the white Java, behind the other Dorking.
They're beautiful chicks

Where did you get them? I have a new theory for sexing, which seems to be working in my line. I have had chicks with the dark triangle and eyeliner still turn out to be male. What I'm finding works in id, so far, is to look at the light area outside the triangle. If there are dark flecks in the light color, it's female. If the light area is all golden or reddish, it's male.
