B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

Hi y'all, Happy NewYear.
I had numerous small, medium eggs white, creme colored and one large brownish red egg that hatched New years,
I was thinking one Dorking and 3 RIR any way to tell them apart without waiting for them to grow up?

Hmmmm.... Can you post pics of the chicks? If you only set Rhode Island Red eggs and dorking eggs, then I would say you had three Dorkings because their eggs are white/ ivory.

Happy New Year!!

Dorkings should have five toes and have a pattern to their feathers. RIR chicks will have three toes and be have yellow to brown feather and rarely a light pattern.

Thanks for the feedback ronott1.

Well then RIR's the 2 with 5 toes I believe are Myakka Silky's have chipmunk pattern too. although 5 toes don't even touch the ground so are balancing on 3 toes. Though they don't have puffy heads or seemingly 'vaulted' skulls. Well Heritage Reds are better than nothing. I'll have to see if I can afford more eggs after the weather breaks and levels out a bit.

wing feathers are brown... I don't want to think about this anymore tonight, will know more definitely in a few months, at least I have male and female of each. So maybe not complete loss.

Concentrate on fibers, sale, spinning, and leather works till they've grown. Too depressing to realize I started hatch fever in the end of Fall and all winter. I have a hatch hangover that I fully expect but hope it doesn't last another 14 months uuuggghhhh garden needs to be started so can plant when weather levels out. Still waiting for my 5 cross pullets to start laying. (NH, Barred Rock, Brahma) should have choice of replacement roo's I think I have 3. Good night, will revise, edit, delete in morning.

the two with 5 toes have a chipmunk pattern? those might be dorkings, depending on what color they are suposed to be. Red, colored, and silver grey dorkings all have that chipmunk pattern. so if they don't have vaulted skulls, then dorkings or dorking crosses are an option

egg where supposed to be Red Dorking
One of the assumed RIR has a 'ghost' chipmunk pattern Very light with dark spots as well and a longer fuzz around neck, like a collar turned up against the cold. They are only 5 days old, So much will change with them. I'm just glad I got (what I hope to be) a breeding pair from each color set and that they are healthy and growing / thriving?.

Thanks for the reply pysankigirl,

It's a New Year, with new Blessings and Challenges that Time will make more clear any question and the solutions.

easiest way, dorking has 5 toes. also chipmunk pattern.
silkies have 5 toes but also black skin while dorkings have whites/pnk skin.
