B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

4 more dorking chicks born between today and yesterday from my Red Pyle pair. I am sooo in love with the chipmunk colored ones!

So far I've gotten one in each hatch, the rest of the chicks being yellow at hatch.
A couple shots of 2 of the chicks:

They look very nice!

any updated pics of the chicks you hatched out before? I'm curious to see who colors into what.

yellow house farms has the best whites IMO, nobody has much in the way of red pyle. hers came from Craig Russell in PA. I don't know if he has any more tho. I know he's got dorkings in a variety of other colors tho.

I love the chipmunk colored ones, too, and yours is adorable!!!!!

Man, I cant wait for spring. I have a self imposed rule after last year of no hatching in the winter, but my resolve is wavering as the winter seems so long.
we had a week long power outage last year where we were running the generator the whole time just to power my little incubator...most expensive chicks ever!!!

well, had a slight 'almost oops'... I had set some eggs, wrote down the lockdown date as the 18th... well yesterday I opened the incubator to take the eggs out and put them in the hatcher, there's 2 mille fleur bantam cochin chicks looking out at me! LOL 6 more eggs that were also due at the same time as well. so they went to the hatcher (3 had pipped already!).

last night had a nice blrw pop out before bed but no other progress on the 2 pipped eggs. this morning I had another blrw and a red dorking running around the hatcher!

first chicks of the year!

the other eggs had quit somewhere along the way, but with the pipped ones I didn't take the time to candle like I normally do...

That happens to all of us!

I use this but ignore the temps and humidity - 30% for incubation and 65 to 75 for hatching:

the problem wasn't calculating the hatch date, it was remembering the set date. LOL

That is why I keep the hatch sheet by my computer. It is very hard to keep track of staggered hatches--I often have three groups incubating at the same time for different people. I print a chart for each one and check the charts daily.

Still I have missed and hatched some on the turner rails. The Ducks were early though....
