ki4got and chesnut, I notice you are in Roanoke, I'm in Harrisonburg and have a SG Dorking pair arriving next week, along with a blue orpington, a barred rock, two australorps and three "surprise rare breeds". I'm hoping to breed the SG dorkings and would love to maintain contact with you in order to potentially swap chicks/roosters if I am successful. It will be a while of course, but I'm reading up so I have more chance of success. I ordered them from mypetchicken.

are you getting chicks or adults?

if chicks, personally I'd recommend ordering more than just a pair, so that you had ample choices to make your breeding selections from.

Chicks. I added the two dorkings to my order when I saw that they were available, I think I got their last available female for that shipment. I would love to have a few more but with the shipping minimums and availability its hard. Hopefully I can get some hatching eggs to put under the first broody hen so I can get a SG flock going. I am getting three "surprise rare breeds" so if I am super lucky I will end up with extra dorkings from the hatch but I'm not counting on it.

I've never shown chickens, but I know the rush of taking home the points at a dog show. Nothing like the pride & accomplishment you feel. Wishing you MANY happy returns.

Mypetchicken.com. She really lives up to her name, she is kind of a dork! Pick her up she will roost on your lap. Soft as baby monkey fur! And by far the low maintenance gal of the pack
