B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

I'm starting to doubt the smarts of my Red roo... I put out a batch of clabber for them about 30 minutes ago. Before I could finish pouring it out of the jar into the pan, he stuck his face all the way to his eyeballs in

Of course, he then shook all it off and over me

This should be a good natural protien booster for them all, between the molting and not having any access to scratch for bugs and such. Plus it doesnt cost me anything

Yes, basically.

In my case, raw milk, left to culture/sour by the woodstove, and it turns to a big huge curd w/whey liquid. The whey I use for making certain cheese, and the curds go to the chickens

ok i got horribly ill once on soured milk... you sure it's ok to give chickens? as in grocery milk with lumps in it ??

don't want to hurt the chickies but sure would be less of a waste.

Not soured pasteurized milk.. thats bad stuff, as it has none of the good bacteria to culture itself. Raw milk only.

We give them leftover soured goat milk, and it is actually really good for them. People have been doing this for years. I actually put a pot of rather normal milk out for them and they waited till it was curdled, *then* knocked it over and ate it up. They love it!

I have to reduce my cockerals so I hope you all would be so kind to help me make a choice. I want to get down to two trios. I have the cockeral picked for the first trio but I need some help for the second trio.

Cockeral #1 is the largest dorking I have. He is very large and has the least taper from breast to tail. His comb is very large, almost excessive, so much so my wife calls him Flag. The bad, he has too much white in the earlobe and he has shown some agression. He has not flogged me but he likes to drag his wing, in my presence and he has bit me when he is on the roost.

Cockeral #2 is slightly smaller with a just a tad bit more taper from breast to tail. He looks like an old Dorking painting by the way he carries himself in the yard. He has red earlobes and has always been gentle. His only problem is a side sprig on his comb.

My girls all have too much white on the ear so # 2 would be good in that reguard. #1 has the size and a good comb but the temperment cocerns me.

I'll try to post some pics.
Thanks
