BaaKaaawk's Spring 2020 Coop Build Thread :)

Hi guys, here's an update! Made quite a bit of progress the last few days. The coop is probably at about 90% now- and enough that tonight is the first night the birds are moving in! They started going in theirselves the last few days and I didn;t want to chase them out so tonight I closed up their old coop early and they're (mostly) getting in. Some confusion with a few still, but that's expected. My daighter loves looking in the windows as they get up on the roosts... which makes it all worth it.

Things still to do... I ran out of hinges lol. No issues I'll buy some tomorrow. I want to put X's on most of the doors. Need to do a lot of painting still of the trim items like the corbels, bottom of the wood boards, etc. Also still have to put up my inside wall so they can't get on top of (aka poop all over) the nesting boxes.

The back is pretty boring, but it faces into the woods and the run. I did make them one heck of a long ramp though! :)

That is coming along really nice. Little chicken mansion! The only possible issue I see is not a lot of ventilation? Unless the floor is wire and I missed that. Being in the north east we couldn't do a wire floor due to frigid winters and critter issues.

Yep, the entire floor is wire. Plus the cupola is actually vented too, and the rafter tails above the wall are open with screen. So lots of ventilation but all as well hidden as I could make it.

Ahh ok, that makes sense. I figured you had it all built in, it just wasn't easily visible.

Some updates- the finish line is in sight! I got the door trim on, the inside walls built (so there are no ledges of any kind they can roost on aside from the roosts... aka all poop goes down through the wire!). And of course they needed a porch swing, so I had to take care of that. :) Only thing left to do is caulking and final coat of paint.

Some inside shots now too. The wood panel siding really created some nice effects inside. I'd say they are probably pretty cozy at night.

As for the boxes, the bottom 4 are it on a stick. The pictures I have show 3 hens in there at the time I took them. Only 2 eggs in the top 4. So I guess they like to casually walk right into their boxes!

Person door to the right?
Egg door lower left?
Window/vent upper left?

Cleanout doors on other side?

Next set of pictures I'll open those all us. You have most correct.

- Top long one is my brooder.
- Bottom 2 are 4 boxes each.
- Right one is Storage.
- Other side 2 big doors are cleanouts.
