Although I think the best thing would have been to call a wildlife rehaber when you first found her, it sounds like you and your dad have turned into wildlife rehabers.

I think whether or not it is illegal is a big issue, but that is more your dad's problem and since you are the poster, just keep doing research on how best to care for it and keep up the good work.

Em, You are doing an amazing job with this little doe who would have probably perished somehow if your Dad hadn't picked her up.
Just last week I had a neighbor drive up to my farm and ask if I sold Goat Milk and to take a look in the backseat of her car. I did and there was a tiny doe fawn, newborn.
Apparently Mama doe had left baby on the side of the road and didn't come back. One day later baby kept wandering out into the road weakly calling for Mama, who never came. Neighbors kept getting her out of the road and moving her back to the side but Mama still never came back

My neighbor finally took her because she was obviously getting dehyrated and it was questionable whether or not she had ever nursed from Mama, she was that new. She had a dried up length of cord hanging from her belly and didn't even look fully cleaned off of the birthing fluids.
No one knows what happened to Mama.
Unfortunately I don't have a milking goat so she got put on goat milk replacer and is now with a wildlife rehabber and doing great! Sometimes it's good to pick them up if you really feel that something is off.
Your baby looked SO much larger than this little girl was, I wonder what happened to her Mama....
She looks so healthy and strong though, keep up the amazing work!
They are something else. I never get sick of watching them graze out here on my property.

Thankyou, today she got her bath with the hose and ran around the concrete porch area having fun tossing her head and such she is such a character my dog tries to play with her now but she shys away, she is getting used to him now though. My chickens are afraid of her they squak really loud when they see her like she's a big dog coming to eat them. She licks EVERYTHING! I come inside after feeding her and I am completly covered in slobber! Her bottom teeth have been in for awhile but her top haven't come in yet but she still chew on things she likes to chomp on dirt for some odd reason maybe it tastes good or she's looking for a nutrient she doesn't have?

? I only take her outside in the actual yard at night so neighbors don't see because the ones across the street are so nosy, and we have no trees really so everyone can see her plus I think she likes the night better and its cooler at night. As for the ticks I pulled everysingle one out by hand! It took about an hour I put them in a bowl of alchol and I check her everyday and haven't seen any. I think the garage will always smell like deer pee even after she is gone because the blankets she was laying on so we switched them out she's sitting on fresh ones right now maybe I should get hay or straw for her to lay on? She can also walk and run up stairs now not so much for the down part but UP yes! I hope the fireworks on 4th of July don't stress her out, I just thought of that the other day maybe I will borrow Winston's (our dog's) crate and put her inside so she doesn't hear them so much. SORRY LONG POST!

You should be very proud of yourself and how well Babe is coming along - thanks to you!! Have you thought of taking the wildlife rehab college courses, or since you seem to love all animals so much from reading some of your posts, maybe you should set your sights on being a vet some day. As caring and compassionate as you are, you would make a wonderful one! Keep up the great work!

You are doing a great job with this deer. But you can't keep it forever, its going to be used to human help and will not have the wild instinct and when you let it go back into the wild it will not be able to forage as it has not been taught, she probably won't last as long as a real wild deer. But, you can probably give her to the state and they will give her to someone that has other deer and correct pens and feeding stations.

Well, seeing as deer are closer to goats genetically, even than sheep, I think I can help you some! Please:
The top teeth won't come in. Deer, goats, and sheep, and a few other animals I can't think of right now don't have them at all.
Eating dirt is fairly normal, so long as all of her muscle control seems normal. If she starts laying out in the sun, acting lethargic, and losing control of her legs, we have an issue.
You could prolly give her a goat supplement, but I doubt that she needs it.
YOU MUST put her in the crate during fireworks. Actually, we put up all of our animals in crates during fireworks-did you know that something like half of dog disappearences are due to fireworks, gun shots, etc? Deer are considerably more spooky than dogs, so she will need to be contained.
To spare your blankets, I would go with straw or shavings-pine shavings only. Does she have a shed, or someplace other than your garage that she can live in when she gets bigger?
And yes, more pics!

You could tag her or collar her and most hunters wouldnt think of shooting her. She stick around the house probly

Please do not collar her. Collared deer = strangled deer.

We have a shed at a rental home near the road where my dad found her I thought maybe she can stay there when she gets older its pretty big some of my roosters are staying there now because my dad was sick of the crowing he goes to let them out everyday and feed them while he's working.

I think you're doing a GREAT job with this fawn, Emzyyy!

And the fact that it's thriving after 3+ weeks means it should do fine, I think.

A couple summers ago, I raised an orphan raccoon. She was so fun to have! A friend of ours in another city said her neighbors had found a little raccoon sitting alone on their porch. This friend has raised numerous raccoons before. That was definitely an experience I'll never forget. She never liked baths though... weird huh? Eventually she got too big for the dog kennel we had her in so we just let her live in the trees around our house and we would set food & water out for her. Eventually she went off on her own. I haven't seen her since.

Keep up the good work!

Make sure you educate those.. umm.. how do I say this nicely.... "less knowledgeable" people about taking in "orphaned" animals when they're not really orphaned, if you know what I mean
