I guess it is just a case of too little sleep and too much time spent on here.

hey bird u are right those are cool looking and their feathers would be good for making trout flies with:p

I am just negotiating with Ideal at the moment to see if they will make an exception( like they did with my last order) and ship on a tuesday to arrive thursday. I am a junior doctor ( final year [ actually final 4 weeks!!!!!!!] resident) and am on call on the Friday until 10pm meaning i would be in the hospital instead of being able to pick up the chickies!

Hopefully they will come to the party and ship on the Tuesday again for me. I will have to ask about the partridge cochin chicks hatch day. The whites are hatching on the monday 21st.

cross your fingers...sheesh now i will need a REALLTY HUGE coop...is 25 chickens a lot? am i being crazy here?

You're asking us crazies if you're being crazy??

As for the coop, ideally, 4 sq. ft. per bird is recommended. In my opinion, if you have plenty of roost space, you can get away with a little less than the 4 sq. ft. recommendation, as well. The birds will likely not all be on the floor at once, or all the time- so just use your better judgement on coop size. My birds are rarely ever on the floor. Actually, they are rarely in the coop other than when I lock them in at night. But again, this is because the weather permits them to be outside almost year round down here. I suspect we'll be seeing you quite a bit over in 'coop designs' now..

Hey, no problem at all. I'm a pretty-new-to-chickens person, myself. Without all the help I've gotten here...sheesh..I don't know where I'd be.

So far, I have I think 37 or 38 in my flock. May be getting a quint of Cream Brabanters soon to add to the number. WOOHOO! I'm also going to fire up the 'bator for my first go at hatching next week. I think I have all my breeds and numbers listed in my sig.

We only have 16 acres right at the moment. We are considering buying the 30 adjoining acres behind us. Well, I say considering, we WILL buy it as soon as the guy officially puts it on the market. I'm so stoked about an additional 30! I can just imagine how hard it will be to NOT add to the flock with that much more land to put them on....

Oh, and I am also looking into getting a Jack donkey or two. I'm going to have to look up Pygmy Goats..I'm not sure that I've seen one, but kudos to you for thinking of a rescue. I'm all for rescues..have quite a few, myself.

Wow..New Zealand...How do you like NY?

And have you worked things out with Ideal to get the shipping you wanted?

we have a huge area of land behind us which is also for sale...we have about 5.5 acres right now and would like to get more but will have to see if we they will sell some out the back of us.

NY is great except for the winters!

Still waiting to hear from ideal today about the shipping.
