I recently hatched 10 chicks. I have two chicken yards and the momma hen started pecking the babies and being kinda mean so I let her go back to her main flock and the 9 chicks (1 didnt make it) I left in the "littles yard". They are feathered out and doing OK, she was still sleeping with them at night but when I let her roam between the two yards she stayed with her main flock and left the littles to themselves. The "littles yard is big... It's huge, they have plenty of room and a small coop. Today I get home and the two roosters have red bloody faces and one has two large gashes in the back of his neck. I have the one who seems to be the dominant roo in the little coop right now. I'm not sure if I should put some of the littles in the big coop to separat the roosters or what. Or maybe I should have left them all with their mom a little longer. Help!

This behavior doesn't usually start until they start to mature around 4 months old. If they are already fighting them one of them has to go.
Make sure all the blood is cleaned from both of them before putting them in with other chickens.
My momma hens have usually had enough baby raising by the time the chicks are 5 or 6 weeks old. Most of my hens will start rejecting them by then and I will have to finish raising them.

I realize this post is 10 years old, but I'm having the same issue. I hatched 22 eggs, (but one didn't make it.) They are now 5 1/2 weeks old, and out of 21 chicks, I'm pretty sure I have 9 roos. The roos have started pecking each other and fighting, and today I have 2 bloody faced roos. I want to "get rid of" all but 1 roo, but I'm not 100% sure which ones are indeed male. They are WAY too young to be fighting like this...I wanted to wait a while until they are older and I'm 100% positive that I'm eliminating the correct ones. One of the bloody ones from today is one of the ones I'm unsure of. Help!

I started a separate thread for my question thanks if anyone responds
