Baby chick genders and breeds

Thank you for the wing sexing info, I was never told that! As for the fuzzy feet aspect, ik the lavender and the leghorn didn't have any and the brahma does. The Maran has feathered feet as well. The baby that is hers has feathered feet, so I'm still not sure abt that one, but the other two that have hatched so far do not have feathered feet, so would that make the Lavender their dad?
Probably. If there's no feathers on the feet then the father or mother isn't feather footed. The marans, if bred to a non-feather footed breed, would produce very sparsely feathered chicks.

She only had very few feathers, so that would have to make the brahma the dark ones dad since he has more feathers on his feet then his mom ever did. The leghorns because they were still a little wet looked to be black but now that their feathers have dried it more of a grey so until they grow up and I can tell for sure I'm going to assume the two hatched so far are LO's. The one does have a dark spot on its leg as well and the brahmas legs are strictly white, and the LO's were dark grey/black too.

So Leghorn x Orpington produce clean footed chicks.

Marans with a few feathers on the feet x Brahma produces a chick with more foot feathers than the mother had.

That sounds right to me! :thumbsup

Plenty of sources forget important details, like "this doesn't work on most chickens."
Yeah I just got into breeding the chickens a few months ago and finding information that is true has been pretty tricky. This forum has helped me out a lot though! This is my second batch so far from the same mom(well sort of since she stole most of the eggs), and I have another batch from a salmon favorelle that she just started laying on 3 days ago so those ones I'm pretty excited for as well! I got rid of the lavender so all of those babies should be the brahmas too so I'll just have to find out who alls babies she stole.

Well I thought that the brown/black baby was the brahmas and the marans, but he has five toes.. neither of those parents have five toes so I'm a bit confused. He came out of a dark brown egg with spots and the only other chicken with five toes lays pink cream colored eggs so I'm at a loss. You can see it in this photo, but it’s on both feet. He also seems to have a bit of a beard so I’m wondering if he is the fovorelles, but the egg is tripping me up. That’s also the egg it came out of.

I agree that 5 toes and beard (if he has one) should show up in one of his parents.
And if neither rooster has those traits, then they would have to come from the mother.

Is there any chance you mixed up which egg he came from?
Or maybe the mother laid an egg that isn't her normal color?
This is definitely confusing!

The salmon favorelle lays her eggs elsewhere..shes actually laying on some eggs right now and hers are cream colored. I'm wondering if maybe he came from a different egg and the broody hen ate that shell before I could see it?? He also has brown on his face which neither the brahma or cuckoo have at all so I'm a little sus of that. I'm just gonna let him grow up and go from there. The favorelle has very distinct traights so when its older I should be able to tell more, but its a bit puzzling right now. The eggs the favorelle is laying on now includes 2 of the ones that are what I believe this one came out of which I believe 99% is the marans eggs. Shes also laying on her cream/pink colored eggs so I'm not sure how she could produce the darker speckled egg??

Update: so the salmon favorelle hatched two of her own eggs today and they look exaclty like the first one so it’s for sure hers. I’m still stumped on the dads on everyone though. Ik the second batch is too soon to tell, but for the first batch we had they are confusing.
here is the salmon favorelle mix(butterfly) 4/5 of them have the fluffy tail like this one and one has a straight up tail. I’m not sure if that could be an identifier for the dad or not but there is that. Also a few have feathers at the beginning of their wings and others just have empty space.
Also for a reminder the possible dads are a lavender Orpington or a light brahma.
