baby chick has hair caught in throat!

It was really amazing that she just cuddled right up to me, and let me massage her, she was clearly very upset because she is usually the crazy chick of the group. Well, I didn't even get to intoduce myself on the forum yet, and I needed you all, and you came through for me. Thank you kindly.

Weird as it is....I have a chick right now with this issue! Did your chick poop it out? I cant pull the hair, its definitely in the crop. I did cut all but about a half inch off...I was hoping she would swallow the rest of it and poop it out? I dont have a needle-less syringe. Should I try just massaging her? Maybe giving her a little milk?

Do you have an eye dropper? I would try massaging the crop. I sat with her for a while massaging the crop, and a dab of olive oil, but you have to be really careful with the oil so she doesn't aspirate.... Look into it.
Our chick was fine by the following morning, she passed it.

I cut the hair then put her back in the box, made sure she was eating and drinking. After awhile I checked on her and the short end of hair had gone down. I massaged her crop for a bit, then put her back. She seems fine this morning, Eating, drinking, pooping as much as ever! I am going to just continue to keep an eye on her. I am so glad you posted about your issue! I was totally freaking when we first noticed the hair! Thank you!

Just a note to let y'all know that this thread was helpful to me, over 8 years later! My 1.5 week old chick swallowed a long hair yesterday. I clipped it on the front end and the chick seems to be utterly unaffected! Hopefully things stay that way.
