Baby chick passed away today 💔😭

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to owning chickens and just received my first order from Meyer Hatchery. I just wanted to share that I lost one of my baby chicks today—little Leanne. She arrived much smaller and weaker than the rest, and despite giving her electrolytes, Nutri-Drench, egg yolk, warmth, and lots of love, she passed away.


She just never quite perked up like the others—lethargic, withdrawn, and not eating or drinking much on her own. It breaks my heart. I know sometimes these things happen, especially with the tiniest ones, but it still hurts. She was only with me a short time, but I loved her.


I’m going to bury her in my forest next to the baby chick that arrived DOA. It feels important to honor their little lives, even if they were brief.


If anyone has been through something similar, I’d welcome your thoughts or suggestions—especially around helping the remaining chicks thrive. The rest of the group seems strong so far, but this has been a hard start. Thanks for listening!

Thank you! I am so devastated. I gave her all of my attention and did the best I could. I’m not sure what else I could have done.

I lost one yesterday. I had her for a week. Failure to thrive, same as what it sounds life yours had going on. I'm so sorry. It's hard for sure.

I am so sorry for your loss. It’s devastating especially when you try so hard to keep them alive.

I wrapped her in a soft towel with some daisies and a fern and buried her among the redwoods on my property. I hope she knows how loved she was.

Thank you. It is very hard. I've only had chicks since the end of July. If night them in 3 groups of 4, a few weeks apart. This was one of my youngest ones.

Sorry about that, I had one amerigauna was killed last month by my neighbor?’s dog , she was my favorite one, always jumped to my hand let me hold her, her name is chipmunk, I was nice to let neighbor to have dogs without pet charge. I rented my next door house to them, but their dog killed my chicken. My dog is getting along well with chickens

Sorry about that, I had one amerigauna was killed last month by my neighbor?’s dog , she was my favorite one, always jumped to my hand let me hold her, her name is chipmunk, I was nice to let neighbor to have dogs without pet charge. I rented my next door house to them, but their dog killed my chicken. My dog is getting along well with chickens
