Hi everyone,
I am brand new to owning chickens and just received my first order from Meyer Hatchery. I just wanted to share that I lost one of my baby chicks today—little Leanne. She arrived much smaller and weaker than the rest, and despite giving her electrolytes, Nutri-Drench, egg yolk, warmth, and lots of love, she passed away.
She just never quite perked up like the others—lethargic, withdrawn, and not eating or drinking much on her own. It breaks my heart.
I know sometimes these things happen, especially with the tiniest ones, but it still hurts. She was only with me a short time, but I loved her.
I’m going to bury her in my forest next to the baby chick that arrived DOA. It feels important to honor their little lives, even if they were brief.
If anyone has been through something similar, I’d welcome your thoughts or suggestions—especially around helping the remaining chicks thrive. The rest of the group seems strong so far, but this has been a hard start.
Thanks for listening!
