Hahah yes! My horses have toys and my cats! Christmas is crazy for me!! My dog of 16yrs passed away a few months ago but she had her own toy box that a friend made her it is huge! And I always wrapped her presents

Awww! That is was so sweet! I'm sorry for your loss, too… I've hated the loss of every loving, long-lived pet. :(

I found out my aunt's dog (who I will be living with soon) has a toy box, too! Apparently, he will go pick out a toy, play with it, then take it back. :gig

Thanks we are looking to get another dog but I'm not quite ready maybe if I find the right one at a shelter :) omg!! Haha mine never took her toys back just left them all over lol!

Why would you gather up all the females if they're for meat? Wouldn't it be best to leave the hens to people who want eggs, and get the roosters for meat?:/ Roosters will be slaughtered (most likely) anyway, so you might as well just get all the roosters you can, raise them, then slaughter them. Instead of slaughtering a bunch of hens. I mean, you're not going to get a chance to get eggs anyway, they'll be slaughtered. Most people want hens so they don't have to slaughter roosters, but you WANT to slaughter them for meat, so, why'd you just choose to take all the hens for meat? Plus, roosters are better for meat.
I just thought that made more sense.

If you read what I said I mentioned I would be keeping females to start a fun backyard experiment. If I want to eat hens then it's no business of yours. Maybe I think hens taste better. Maybe I will give them a chance as layers. Thank god this is america and my decisions dont need to make sense to you. Your logic that chickens are equivalent to children doesn't make any sense to me! Obviously we don't think alike. Try not to judge people so harshly, you will lead a happier life! either way these birds will have a huge yard, loving pyrenees to protect them and wonderful housing, feed and care.

I think I saw you say you were thinking of keeping a few to breed with your purebred rooster to experiment on meat birds? I have a couple dark cornish I plan on working with to cross see how they do for meat birds.....My other half really likes breast meat and the dark cornish suppose to be breasty so we'll see :) I was fairly impressed with the bantam dark cornish  chickens I saw at the chicken show...........the bodys were very well developed and muscler/meaty bird in bantam so.. be interested to see how the dark cornish LF fill out

Yes I have two massive orpington cockrel from show lines and they're so sweet and gentle but not show quality so I wanted to get them some meaty ladies to free range with and start a little family. It will also give me some eggs to experiment with and learn to incubate. I like to cross breed chickens but don't want to mess up my show lines and these boys are just too sweet to not have their own little flock so I'm going to see what I can get and kind of have fun in the process!

I think you said you got freedom rangers also? probly be good to mix with... if they are cornish cross meat birds I have heard ppl who have bred them but they hens also a re prone it heart attacks as they age ... if the freedom rangers those hens probly be better I believe they are substainable... anyways least to my understanding the cornish cross arent very substainable...as they mature past processing weight health issues occure......thought thought I saw someone did cross breed cornish crosses to hertiage breeds and were working on it... to me sounds like alot of work to keep the breeders alive and healthy with the health issues that are involved with the cornish cross.........between heart issues and also tumors and growths and leg breakage due to rapid weight gain.......anyways thats my limited understanding... be interesting to hear how things end up working for you...I might try a couple cornish cross in the fall for some freezer birds for the winter...........I look forward to learning thru experience how the birds are..

I understand your concerns. I had the same concerns. I have read up on the cornish and that is one reason we are going to free range them. So they can be mobile and eat bugs and shrubs and grow slowly. If any of the hens develop health issues they will be humanely processed. I won't let them suffer if they can't thrive past processing age. I am just kind of giving them a chance to be layers and bug eaters and if they aren't healthy in doing so then they will be dinner. I think the red rangers will have a better chance at being layers and pets which is why I wanted females if I could manage it. The cornish I will kind of see how it goes and do the best I Can.
