Baby Chick With One Eye Closed

i think the simplest answer is there is alot of dirt and dust... another one is big eyes in a little skulls... one of my chicken had it for about 2 weeks and then stopped... she is very healthy and strong right now about to start laying

Outpost JWB Thank you for the follow up, Im glad your chicken is doing great! I just hatched one like this. One eye is only slightly smaller than normal, but can see just fine out of it. The other eye is only about 5% open, and not sure if it can see out of this eye. Its attiude is great, very lively when its awake (its only 1 day old so it sleeps quite a bit like any other newly hatched chick). I will continue to monitor to make sure it eats and drinks fine. It seems as if when the eyelids were developing over the eye, they got stuck together, a tiny bit on the good eye, and almost completely on the bad eye.

update for my little blinky chick.... sadly it didn't make it. It just got more sleepy and lethargic and wouldn't eat. I haven't noticed any other one-eye-shut chickies. I've had others that died not long after getting ruffled and lethargic but that was the only one that had the one eye thing. hmmm....

My Cochin chick just had the one eye close issue on Sat night, I separated her and wiped her side with a warm paper towel. Read some info on here then set out Sunday morning to TSC for penicillin or Tylan 50. Tylan 50 they no longer carried and penicillin was given subcutaneous. Talking to the manager there she said chicks are pretty resilient and just use a warm cloth to wipe her eye but don't put anything on it, not even Neosporin. So sure enough the chicks eye is open today and she seems fine. Now... Because she was separated am I going to have any problems putting her back with other chicks??
