I have a 4-day old Lav Ameraucana chick. Since it's been born, it won't put its right leg down. It keeps it high up. So obviously it's not really getting around. When I pick it up and extend the leg, the chick doesn't act like it's in pain and it does extend. I did a spraddle leg treatment for the last two days thinking that might help. It didn't. I took off the bandaid and it's the same. Any thoughts? I want to help it! Thanks!

It sounds more like a slipped tendon to me. You can check each leg - at the back of the hock- you will see a big difference in the way they look if the tendon has slipped off. Sadly it may be too late to be flexible enough to slip back into place if that is the problem. There is plenty of information here on the forum about slipped tendons and how to treat it if you do a search.

Try the link in my signature. It is a site created by another BYC member and has a lot of info on leg/foot issues in chicks. I hope it is not too late to help her.

Good luck.
