Baby Chicks Arrived!

Yeah, those vague statements about the shipping are bad enough, but when it's CHICKS you're talking about, well, three days is a long time. You must live in the boonies like I do. It always takes a day longer as compared to other areas. I sure hope they arrive safe and healthy!

Boonies definitely East Tx
Thank you. I keep hoping they are wrong and will just get here tomorrow but usps is terrible at updating shipping. Im just ready for sweet lil fluff butts. <3

There is just nothing better!

My opinion on ordering online:
It's the only way I go because chicks can be hard to come by around me. Usually sold as straight run. I also have particular breed choices and like the variety. I can go with a company I trust.
I would say you need to order 5+ to make the shipping remotely worth it though.

I'm so glad your chicks arrived and are doing well. They are very cute!
We never order fewer than 25, and often 50! Two or three of us who live nearby will place an order together, which improves pricing and chick safety, and is fun, too.
Try meeting other 'crazy chicken folks', either locally, or check in here on your state's thread. Mary

NEW QUESTION - I have read several more knowledgable posters mention to watch out for Pasty Butt. What exactly am I looking for?? Buffy had some green poo on her butt last night and I washed it with a paper towel. This morning it looks like she has some more.

It was a long night with the smallest one. She was scared and cried - a lot. The two bigger ones did not. Little one was so scared - when I went in to check on her and try to calm her down - she took a running leap, out of the cage and into my lap! I have fixed this problem, but last night I held her until she stopped trembling, finally got her quieted down and back under the heat plate around 2:30am - she slept the rest of the night.

I thought they didn't eat and drink at night? I refilled their saucer twice throughout the night and it was almost empty this morning - so was their food.

Yes, it was extremely expensive to have just 3 shipped! We just bought our place here about 18 months ago. We only have one neighbor. It was his Hen that came over the fence and decided to live with us. Then the neighbor threw a Rooster over to keep her company - THEN, he bought 6 more pullets at the FleaMarket and 2 of those flew over and decided to live with us! I decided, if I was going to spend all this time, money, and effort on these chickens - I wanted some that would let me pet and hold them! And, I figured it would be better to add more sooner than later.

I doubt this neighbor would be willing to spend the $$ for an order. Maybe someday, I will find some other 'crazy chicken folks' near us! But for now, we feel pretty much alone in the desert!
