Baby chicks countdown thread!

Pics
11-12 weeks for my hatch & shipped chicks! Much closer than the original 19 weeks when I started the thread!

And only 3 weeks til I start my classroom hatch (I consider it the pregame warmup to my own hatch where I’m keeping some chicks!)

Twiddling my thumbs….lol…

Let’s be impatient together! :celebrate
1. Your expected ship/arrival week
Ship date 03/30/2022
2. How many weeks are left
1 week
3. Where you ordered from
Cackle Hatchery as our local breeder lost a lot of her flock due to predators when she moved :(
4. What was in your order
Belefelders (I think that's how it is spelled) 5 hens and 1 rooster

ok so funny story. I got chickens last year, pretty much my husbands idea... well he was thinking 4 chickens..... I planned on 8........ so I ordered up my 8 then decided I wanted EE so talked him into adding 2 more.... got my 10 chicks...... 2 turned out to be roosters, re-homed 1 and decided to keep 1, then 1 passed away at 9 weeks.... so ended up with 8 counting my roo.....

This year I ordered some (a couple extra in case of the issues I had last year) and I am hatching some to try to get a splash Cochin. My husband knew I was hatching and i had said about ordering. But it came up tonight about what I will do with them once they hatch, and when I get the ones I ordered.. He seemed a bit shocked and asked "how many chickens are you getting?" He knows there are 10 in the incubator (well now 11 since I added another one aday later). I didn't fully tell him just told him I ordered extra and placed extra eggs but only keeping 1 or 2 that hatch IF I get a splash and re-homing the rest and any extras that make it......... I didn't DARE tell him that I am also going to try to go to another feed store to get a few other breeds tha I couldn't order from the feed store that i placed my order.. I am keeping 3 from that store if they have what I want, but min is 6 so picking up some for some other people too. really hope he doesn't look in the brooder before I get others to their homes and counts since it could be 14-18 in there PLUS any that hatch from my (11) eggs in the incubator. HE WILL FREAK! As it is he may freak on me keeping 10. Just hope he doesn't count them! LOL

Did you ever get your chicks? Your reorder I mean?
I've noticed lately that a lot of stuff shipped through USPS is going right past me by several states and then backtracking! :he 2 times something got all of the way to my state and then went back to the seller and then came back to me.
They have one job.... 🤨
They rescheduled them an entire month after I was set to receive them... So my next shipment hatches on Wednesday, April 6th! I set it up to go to my work address because I learned they would likely arrive Friday evening and sit overnight in my tiny local post office that closes at like noon every day. Hoping it all works out this time! 🤞

oh no on the rescheduling! fingers crossed it works out this time!!!!!!!!

1. Your expected ship/arrival week: April 27th 2022
2. How many weeks are left: 4
3. Where you ordered from: Hoover's Hatchery via a local feed store
4. What was in your order: Starting off with 5! 3 Easter Eggers and 2 Sapphire Gems!

Jumping in feet first. I have most of the brooder equipment and will be setting it all up in the next couple weeks. I have a rough idea for a coupe and run, and will be constructing it over the next 6-8 weeks. If an educated grower were to guess when my chicks would be ready to go outside, I'd like some predictions! I need to find that little spreadsheet I've seen floating around on the net with age/ temp timelines for going outside.

Do they go right from the brooder to the coop?

Thank you all for helping a green horn! I've wanted to do this for years, and I finally have just had enough of thinking about it. Time to get after it, I'm very excited.
