Baby chicks kicking food out of feeder

Do chicks normally do this? A good amount of food is in the bedding.

Oh yes, they're terrible food wasters if you let them. Try raising the feeder up to shoulder height so it's more difficult for them to get their feet in it.

I used masking tape to block off part of the feed holes and I hang the feeder. Between the two of these I have almost no waste of the food.
