baby duck care

i know sometimes it is frustrating with the welcoming and stuff.

first of all you need 24% chick starter.
second, you need lots of water cause their ducks.
third, you can let them swim right away but never take your eyes off of them AT ALL! they may get tired or cold because they wont get the water proof coat until they are 4 WEEKS OLD! after swimming them dry them off by putting them under a nice and clean brooder lamp. the swimming water should be ranging from 85 degrees to 90 degrees. lower the temp. as they grow older.

fourth, ducks are messy so you should have new newspaper and woodshavings EVERY DAY.
fifth, i dont think that it matters what kind of enclosure you start them in as long as it is dry and warm.

i hope you dont give up on them because no one answered your questions. i think that there is a award you get for welcoming people so dont give up! GOOD LUCK!

Please tell me I'm doing this right! New to this and new to baby ducks. I have no idea where to post anything here. But we adopted a baby duck today that is maybe 2 weeks old. Kids were at the park he swam up and managed to climb out of the water and into my daughters lap. I figured the mom and other babies were somewhere close by. I have a few questions and if you could help I'd appreciate it

Hi. There are other sites for ducks 'Pets and wild life [email protected]' also 'ducks with disabilities'.
Make sure you keep him safe awsy from predators and on a surface that isn't slick or it can develop 'slip leg ' also feed organic, fresh food, except for the basic feed. You csn check on food recalls. They are messy and grow fast, but sweet. I'm in Houston if you want to talk. My IM is mymartin21. I will be on line tomorrow.

Thanks, so u have a duck too? I've heard several people tell me to get him a buddy, what do u think? I'm his buddy but he doesn't want me to put him down so is that normal? If I talk to him he stops freaking out. I never thought I'd get attached to a little duck but I love him

Hi. I know, right, you can't help it. They are such love bugs.

My little baby, she recently passed away two weeks ago :-( I'm crushed. She wasn't well from a chick, so I kept her to care for her. She had the best personality.

That is normal, you are her/his mom now. It gets better as they get older. They are very needy when they are babies.
If you do decide to get another one, make sure they get along. Sometimes, they won't have anything to do with one another and it is chaos.
