baby duck with lots of problems

Hi there,

Is the duckling from the same breed / species of duck or is it crossed? As far as being on its back, there could be some neurological issues that could go away with time. It's hard to say without actually taking it to a vet but you may not want the bill.

Good luck!

I didn't know there was a duck feet thread. How cute is that. I still remember Que Seras little feet sounds when she would walk up and down the hallway.

Patty
I love that sound. Even the big flappity ones like Opie. Of course the ladies still have small feet compared to the drakes.

IHe was just in and left me enough feathers to start a down comforter.

.I also have been giving Ernie some extra calories in the form of dog kibble[lamb and rice] along with whole corn and meal worms Hoping to put some weight on him before serious cold gets here. He isn't near as heavy as he use to be. Any one who has older ducks might want to think about doing this a little extra calories may make the difference in how well they do over winter.

Oh and have you ever seen the little paint samples at Lowes so if your thinking about changing a color you can try it on your wall first with these samples? well my dad had a coupon for a free one and I used it last year got a lavender color nothing in my house would go with it but I love the color anyway I found it the other day and was going to toss it when I thought maybe using it in one of my houses so yesterday I did I painted the front of the stalls. I have to buy one more now to get them all done but what was funny is Dolly didn't want to come inside last night I think the color was so different than the dark brown she wasn't sure it was her house. lol I'll post pics when done maybe I'll add some flowers[just kidding]

Very true @LiraEstates and alot of time just adding Niacin in the form of Brewers yeast to their feed daily can help alot. Vitamin B3 deficiency is main cause of leg weakness and Neurological issues in water fowl because chick and chicken feed doesn't have the amount of niacin water fowl need to thrive. It is rec that from time you get your ducklings or hatch them yourself they start on Brewers yeast added to their feed or Niacin added to their water. for the first 10 weeks of their lives.
Then again if a Crested duck they need even more nutritional support.

Topper is like the ringleader of the whole yard.  Especially when it comes to food.  When she hears the door shut she is the first one there checking to see if  you have any treats to give  her. It takes five boiled duck eggs to keep her and her flock busy while I throw two pieces of bread to Clyde.  She was the one I was worried about getting his bread before he could get to it.  She did get it one morning but I broke another pill up and he got it the second time around. I know I am so happy with his progress and so is he.

Patty
I love Topper because her personality is so big. And she is a leader and has a gang. It entertains me that your bird dux form little alliances. I still want you to do a reality show. I wish I was a producer or something to make it happen. It would be way better TV than those krappy kardashians.

Eeeee, flippity flappy webs in the house and man ducks having bigger feets than the woman ducks. Opie swaggering with his large webs on the hardwood floor. I downloaded the duckling pic of him onto the background of my phone. I had wvduckchicks Opie on my phone for a little while too. Why are these Opies so cute. Silly Dolly. Cute she knows her colors. Smart too.

Awe pattyhen, Que Sera's little webby sounds on the floor. I just love ducks so much.

I was showing that pic to dh and he said Opie looked like a crow.  lol

Deb they do change so much it is amazing.
Ha-ha, a crow. You know, I know what he means tho. When my burds are viewed at different angles they have resembled other bird species to me. It's kinda neat.

Patty I've read that when they molt it helps to give them extra protein to help them grow their feathers faster. I would really like to put more weight on Clyde. Do you buy like the kibbles and bits lamb and rice food? Can they eat the dried corn that is in big kernels? I know my ducks and chickens love the canned corn and fresh off the cob too. I've never tried the big dried kernals before tho.

That's cute that Dolly noticed the color was different. Flowers or pictures of ducks would be cute on their stall doors. Take a pic of them when your done we would love to see your art work.

I think if Topper had her own reality show it would probably change her. She would have to dye her feathers maybe a blonde color and then get implants. Oh and she would have to have big lips to go along with her new body. She already knows she's all that and a tv show would just make her worse. She would be laying in a chaise lounge chair in the yard while Donald brings her corn bon bons on a silver tray.

My flock loves whole dried corn even my bantam chickens eat it. lol
I buy Diamond brand dog food in Lamb and Rice I get it at TSC. My flock loves the dog kibble and it is small bits so easy for them to eat. I think any dog kibble would be okay as long as it didn't have a bunch of junk in it.

I'll take some pic when finished.

That is funny Patty. I can picture it. She is so perfect for the part. I would volunteer to be her personal assistant. I'd constantly tell her how cute she is. Hopefully she'd let me scoop and kiss her. Now knowing Que Sera, she'd never let the celebrity status go to her head.
