baby duck with lots of problems

This is Jeffrey. Sorry their not real clear he had to use the flash on the phone and Jeffrey was pretty camera shy. I saw him eatting a little while ago. On his lid he has kale leaves, koi food, turtle food, soaked dog food and bananas. He was chomping on the bananas. Yeahhh he's eatting something. I'll get him some strawberries the next time I go to the store.

Hubbie says he's a boy because he has a little indention in the center of his shell on the bottom. He says if it was a female it would be flat and males have the indention so they can mate.

Ozzie gets another steak. Hubbie was out front and heard the commotion. He looked over and a hawk was swooping down and the ducks were quacking and Ozzie was chasing the hawk. He followed it all the way to the fence line. It was pretty good size and a grayish color. Bubba didn't give any warning at all he was in the back yard with the girls.

I tried to think of something to compare his size with and a cereal bowl come to mind.:D   Robbie named him Jeffrey.  I don't think he has a middle name yet.

Clyde never did get his pill yesterday.  After four tries I gave up.  Yes Topper messed up the whole routine and it upset Clyde so much he wouldn't eat it.  I did get him to take it this morning.  Topper behaved herself and didn't eat with both groups the way she did yesterday.

I love the name Jeffrey for him. It is sweet.

Awe, poor Clyde. I feel bad he got stressed out. Topper, stop that!! It is not all about you even though I secretly think you are super cute and funny and a rebel. I am glad he got it today. You sure have to be creative to ensure he gets it.

Jeffery has a cute face. Im glad he's eating. Nice you give him a big variety. Again, a miracle Robbie found him. He deserves a good life. Way to go Ozzie. What a relief he scared the hawk off. That is serious scary. I love raptors but they need to stay outta people's heads where they have their pets. Give him a big hug and thank from me.

Patty, post a picture of him when you can.  If there are any bright colors, you have boy.  Muted or no discernible color would be female.  He doesn't need the heat bulb at all and would probably be happiest in a coop outside.  We kept a turtle with the ducks for a month or so over the summer and let him go when he no longer seemed happy cooped up.  He won't need the uvb bulb outside either.  If you put him outside, he may try to find some soft ground to bury himself in.  Once hibernated, they do come out occasionally on really nice days.  They can go completely hibernated from November until April or May.  They typically live to about 30 years old.  A few bites a day this time of year isn't bad.  Most important is some protein and he needs access to water 24/7.
Wowza, 30 years. Cool. You know so much Debs. That is awesome.

Yep, that's definitely a boy. I forgot about the indentation...the best way to tell you have a boy. They really can be little piggies. I often gave mine dessert (fruit) first. It seemed to get their appetite going. Jeffery is a beautiful box turtle. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Box turtle. How cute.

I love that. So precious and innocent. In your experience, can you predict that as adults they will still be close friends?

In my experience so far eventually the ducks quacking in their pen next door tends to start intriguing the younger ducks and they start hanging out and "talking" to each other by the window between the pens until they are allowed to join their fellows. Ducky has some time yet with her buddies tho I have two younger sets of ducklings that have to get bigger first.

Happy Halloween to everyone.  I bought candy but we probably won't have any trick or treaters.  The kids go to parties now and they don't trick or treat the way we used too.

I noticed that tonight, it sucks that my kids won't have the same awesome Halloween fun I had when I was a kid. Kids seem so much lazier now, no one wants to walk around to get candy anymore...I used to get couple pillowcases worth every year we did whole neighborhoods. now you're lucky if half the houses are doing it.

Your welcome Deb I hope he becomes a piggie soon.
