We initially found this egg after the mama decided to leave the nest prematurely. I have been “incubating” it with a light for over 5 days, over 24 hrs ago it made its first hole so we decided to help it out. Unfortunately it was too early and the yolk is still outside. It’s currently sitting in half of the egg with the yolk and umbilical cord. We placed a paper towel over the yolk and woke up every two hours at night to re-wet it. Today the yolk is still not absorbed and I’m wondering if the shell is helping or hurting. Any advice would be appreciated! The baby peeps and moves it’s legs and head around quite a bit. I will attach a photo for reference.

I know it can take awhile for the yolk to absorb. I have read the wet paper towel could be too cold, but I can't think of what was suggested to do as a substitution.
Have you read any of the articles on assisted hatching? They are very helpful.
