I saw where someone took a nipple from a baby bottle and put formula inside so their dove chicks could do that, so we got some but he still doesn't open his eyes all the way and his neck isn't very strong yet so its a little hard for him to do that yet. I put the drop on his beak and he opens his mouth and swallows it with the syringe. When he gets stronger and eyes open more I'm planning on trying the other way again :)
The recipe for the formula said to bring to room temperature, should it be that hot?
Just now he started squealing and trying to move, but was struggling so I carefully picked him up and moved him a bit. Was it ok I picked him up? I'm very new to this :rolleyes::)

I don't have a thermometer to know the temperature, but he has a heating pad on medium under part of his box and a desk lamp above him. He also has hay that he sits on but he isn't on a whole lot right now since he moved.

In post #12 i posted a link to pics of my feeder using a latex glove which is softer than the nipple of a baby bottle and easier to push his beak into.
 
As @biophiliac said rather than the nipple get some latex gloves! Cut the nozzle bit off the syringe put a rubber band over to keep it tight and cut a cross shape for his beak! He doesnt need to have his eyes open for that, if you gently hold his head to support him and bring the syringe to his mouth that should help. For the temp i dip my finger in and put a little in my mouth, isnt nice lol but is good for determining the right temp

Excellent advice, esp using tongue to check temp. I cut just a slit instead of a cross, whatever works is fine. :thumbsup

That can work. I used that at first. I like the disposable latex better and used a lot of them - about one per feeding because the slit gets stretched out fast by the vigorous slurping and it gets messy.

Vet wrap can also be used as shown in avideo i posted to @LauraMunro 's thread. Laura, can you find it ?
