Baby quail food grinding?

Maybe it's me but after watching my quail go from one week to two weeks old they seem to waste less food with it ground as opossed to the crumbles. I wonder if it would be ok to continue giving them ground food?

Hmm. This is pretty true... I mean since theyre small, I would expect them to eat the ground food too, but not into a powder... Er... I dunno. But you are right about one thing for sure, they do waste less found while its ground. Heh. These weird strange lil guys

Yes, put a wire lid on top. Mine started flying out of the box when they were 1 week old.

I so needed to read this sooner!! I had an escapee last night then half hour later three more due to jumping out the wooden box I was keeping them in! The sides are really high so totally didn't expect them to be able to jump out! Have now moved them into a small aviary, indoors, so no more escaping! They are jumping and fluttering about like seeing if they can fly! So cute! Just hope they are not too cold now as it's winter here. But they still got their heat blanket with hay in inside the hutch part of aviary. And they still eating even though it's night! So can't be cold if still active I guess?

Hi! I've already raised my quail, and if you need any help just ask me because I know it was frustrating. They can jump pretty high, and they do like to make a mess with their food. XD

Just remember they're silly animals and won't shelter themselves from wind/rain xD

They are in my living room so thankfully haven't had to worry about wind or rain yet! It just colder downstairs at night than upstairs but it's been two nights now and they have been fine. When I check on them most of them are eating eating eating! Some are snuggled cosy in the shelter.

No way!! Can they really go that high!!! Even my adults have only flown about 3-4 foot in the air! And so so fat and slow lol. Like seriously, a predator could just pluck them out the air as they go mine are that slow beating along!!! LOL

Lol!! Oh yes, they can definitely get that high, and they don't even have to be spooked, it could just be a spaz fly from a happy popcorn dance...I think the smaller quail can fly higher easily but don't underestimate your old dumpy females either!!
