"Baby"silkie update after vet :(

I'm sorry your baby didn't make it.

I have been using a heavy weight fishing line that I had strung all over the top of the run (back n forth) for the length. I then put small pcs of yarn here and there on the fishing line.....the pcs blow in the wind and make it more visible.

My thought process was something overhead such as a hawk would see it as a cover. It's actually been pretty sturdy. Although there were some issues with the turkeys and the fishing line...

At the end of summer I decided I was going to replace it and bought some orange snow fencing on ebay. The guy sent me two different rolls. The one roll is heavy plastic like I was expecting, but the other roll I really like it's a heavy guage net type material. In the spring I plan to string the net stuff over the run.

My hope is to offer enough of a deterrent that flying predators look for an easier meal.

Zunibee, this is the netting I've been looking for too....a real good price,,,I think I can sew a bunch of them together and make a nice big area for the birds to roam during the day. Thank you! Julie

I use zip ties to "sew" them together. You have to get the heavy duty ones.....I get them at Lowes. Just zip tie them to the top of your fencing all the way around and zip tie the nets together to make bigger nets. Once you zip tie it just snip the tail off the zip tie and you hardly notice they are there.

Okay,,,zip ties a good idea! Concerning this fishing line....I had heard about others using this. If I didn't live on heavy wooded land it would be a good thing but I have soooo many trees and so much ground to cover it would be impossible. I am getting the netting though to keep them safe. Thank you allllll for all your help and support! You all have really helped me through a bad time! Julie
