I got my first 2 brahmas in February and fell in love! They are like dogs but better. They run to see me....but walk away if I try to pet them

one male one female gentle giants.....I love them ....about to google about broodiness or egg laying....my male is mating females but not his female maybe she wont be ready for a while.....
Brahmas take ages to grow up...... Mine don´t start laying until they´re way past 6 months...maybe 8 or 9 months old.

Super! Looking forward to seeing the little partridges.

I have a silly question for everybody. Do your cockerels lay down a lot?

I've noticed that my dark cockerel spends a lot of time lying down. He'll lay there picking at rhe grass all around and then get up and move somewhere else and lay down till he's done in that spot and then repeat.

He doesn't seem too heavy but he has me worried. Just because my only other cockerel who laid down all the time had been splay foot at hatch. We fixed him with little cardboard booties at a few days old. But by 9 months or so he was totally crippled again and we had to butcher him.

I've only seen Cornish X do that. Have you checked him over well to make sure it's not a problem with his feet or joints? If it's not an injury or illness the only other thing I can think of is maybe a heart condition. Hopefully others will have better ideas for you....good luck!

Sometimes mine do it when it gets too hot for them. Hard to say, might be a problem and then might just be a lazy cockerel. All of mine lay down in the afternoon for a nap.
