Backyard Brahmas!!

Here is a picture of my cockerel when he was 4 months old. You can see that he had a little bit of gold/red in his neck and chest area. Second picture is of him at 8 months. Not blue though, I haven't ever had a blue cock or cockerel. Sorry, I don't think I have any before the 4 month old mark.

The only one I ever had with the gold on the chest was a cross between my gold partridge rooster and a gold-laced Cochin hen, so I can't help you either.

This is my latest gold partridge guy - no gold on the chest, either.

Wow... He is stunning! ;) whats correct color for a buff brahma? Most of mine have black feathers on their heads. they are only 2 months.

Any input on whether this cockerel might lose this color on his breast with age?

His blue is beautiful where it shows but I'm afraid I know the answer here, just being hopeful. If not hopefully I'll get a blue cockerel from my latest hatch.

And just one shameless shout-out to my handsome Big Boy.. Bless his heart (and mine), both his partridge ladies are now broody so I've been letting him out alone this weekend. He hangs out within a few inches of my layer girls.. Sometimes I let them out for company with him, but they end up in the garden and in trouble with my hubby.

So I figure he's better off just visiting and staying out of trouble.

I saw this earlier, then I saw something about pyle Brahmas and my eyes glazed over, and my mind wandered off somewhere.

But anyway, has the chest color changed any as this bird matured ? The reason I ask is I once had a somewhat similar cockerel. As a youngster he had a mostly solid red chest.

But as he matured he went through a pretty dramatic change.

He never did end up a true pattern. Was maturing into a pretty nice sized bird when he went purple in the face, and keeled over dead in the yard one day before he reached his full size.

So to answer your question, I don't know for sure, but kinda doubt if your male's chest will clean up.

Hi all, just caught up on 40+ pages of posts here, and it's good to see everyone! Have been spending time on the broody threads because....

this Brahma's gonna be a mama! (I hope) We've got about a week to go to hatch. This is her first hatch, and mine! Not her own eggs, I had to order them. No boys at our house.

She's separated from her 2 obnoxious, egg-stomping roommates for now, but has access to her own private estate. Caught her up and about today!

Thanks big medicine, I thought of you when I saw that! lol

Here is an early pic of him:

So yes, I guess he has cleaned up somewhat. I agree with you though on that he may never really clear it.

Thanks again!

He was pretty, even if his color wasn't cleaning up. Sorry that he keeled over.

I knew that the lemon pyle would drive you crazy!
