Backyard chickens vs HOA

I believe that meant the part about saying it was an emotional support animal when it clearly isn't just to keep them. Not that it's a chicken.
I feel the same way and would also if same was being done with a dog.
Ironic that poster mentioned it being dishonest when they earlier said OP should just deny having them.

I should have said make them prove you have them, do not admit it. Which is what a good lawyer might say. And the added benefit there would be if they showed pictures it would narrow down what neighbor is involved.

Emotional support animals are 90% BS and as a landlord it hits a nerve with me.

emotional support animal?

A dog can be trained not to poop in the house, a dog is suited to living inside whereas a chicken is clearly not. As a landlord I would go off the deep end if someone tried to move a chicken in one of my properties. Some people are self centered and think the world revolves around them and their wants come first. If you google emotional support animal the first page is all ads for Dr's who will give a recommendation without even meeting you. It is a scam for the most part.

HOA's are the Devil. Why anyone would want to pay some "association" to tell you how to live your life, or what you can/cannot do on your own land, is completely beyond me. Hell no.

I made sure to not accept an HOA of any kind, even an older disbanded one that supposedly was only created for joint road maintenence. Those 3 letters should rightfully scare anyone off.

the reason people buy into them is that they imagine the HOA will keep everyone else in line.

Like I said, an esa and a sa are not the same. What @IdyllwildAcres is describing is a service animal. A landlord can absolutely not allow a esa into a home- especially if that animal is something like a chicken. I also said to go to a doctor. I would never recommend one of those websites that IMO are fraudulent. There are frauds in every industry and field. Misunderstanding the differences AND frauds like the websites that provide letters for a fee without actually meeting the patient are what cause problems for those with legitimate needs.

Furthermore, ESAs seem to be as controversial to some as abortion with people who have very strong opinions on both sides. My opinion is that ESAs can and are valuable tools for anyone with a legitimate need. There are however people who try to abuse the system like people who try to take their pets onto a plane.

I am taking in 4 hens this Saturday from a friend and member of this site. She has had them since the middle of last year and has been embattled with the estates manager and neighbours. The estates manager have allowed her to keep them until an official complaint came in, in which case they were bound by law to have them removed. I have never heard of this in the UK but obviously it does happen. She is absolutely devasted.

People fake sa's on the plane also because the sa flies free.
