Thanks, I'm glad for the reassurance. The chickens live with my ex and he swore it was a rooster. Now I have opinions to go back and counter him with. Dominance behavior makes sense. The bird I saw her mounting was a low ranking one and she's second only to the older hen. I agree it would likely stop with a rooster. We're trying to close on a property now where I can keep them myself and add more, so I'll find out soon. Thanks again.

Sometimes hens mount other hens as a show of dominance. That is definitely a hen at 5 months.
