bad day at school today about chickens........

I know it is VERY hard to ignore the people that tease you at your school. Some kids at my school used to make fun of me for having chickens. Sometimes I still get the occasional "I'm eating KFC tonight! Let's take your silkies and use them as mops! Your going to ANOTHER poultry show???" but after awhile with self-control, you learn to ignore them. Maybe you can see if you could bring in one of your birds during science class or something and give a prsentation on how beneficial they are.

That's horrible. I think that will just arm them with more ammunition. Not only are you the chicken boy/ girl, but now you're the one that is a complete jerk and can't take some jokes. I'd let it go and let them play their games. They sucked you in and it's your responsibility to let it go and throw up the flag.

Honestly? I NEVER mention my chickens at school. Not because I'm ashamed at them, but because it's just not necessary. My friends and I talk about school/life-related topics, and sometimes a chicken-thing is thrown in there for good measure. Usually something funny that happened like 'today the rooster has a new girlfriend' or 'my hens had a row'. I've learned over the years that unpopular topics tend to draw alot of attention within themselves. The chicken subject for our age-group is almost notorious for bringing up negative feelings. My advice: embrace the hurt, shake it off, and ignore it. Learn from this. Don't report anyone (at risk of allowing your peers to see the weakness you show, ex: the need of having adults intervene. The kids you report will remember this forever.), don't harrass (Don't make enemies. This is meerly a way of trying you out, nothing more. It's not personal.), and if you must reply to a comment, laugh it off briefly (show that you are not offended and can take a good joke. Because you are not being victimized, and if for anything, it is merely the attention you drew to the chicken factor). This is something, that although may feel like forever, will pass.
