bad dog

the neighbors dog killed one of my chickens and got ahold of another, need some advise for fixing her up she got a few holes in her

Sorry to hear about your chickens. If the wholes are big check out the forum at the top of the page about sewing a crop. It is very helpful. If they are small maybe antibiotic ointment could help, just check the label for anything with caines in it.(its toxic to chickens) Good Luck, keep us posted

Dog bites carry alot of germs so make sure you flush the wounds out with a saline solution.

Just like Hankshens said put on some antibitotic med , neosporin is fine but not the kind with pain relief. ( I read that here somewhere).

Put her in a quiet space , she is probally really stressed .
See if she will eat some scrambled egg.

shes eating and drinking today....and pretty alert to things around her.i fixed scrambled eggs for breakfast today and she had one..i think as long as there is nothing internal hurt and i keep the wounds from getting infected she's gonna be alright...shes still not standing up yet ...i think she may have a sprain in the right leg...i checked it lastnight and nothing felt like it was broken

i'm really surprised she layed an egg in the dog crate in the livingroom .....i guess shes not that stressed from the attack..now if i can just keep the infection out of the wounds and her right leg heals up i think she'll be fine..shes still not putting any weight on the right foot wifes cleaned the wound twice today with iodine and put antibiotic cream on it afterwards

shes still improving ...

....the leg still worries me tho ...she still cant put any weight on it ,but shes eating and trying to.looks like the wounds are gonna heal up nicely. the wife cleaning them twice a day morning and night

Hey, Grass! I'm so glad to hear she is improving! The leg should be fine with a little time if there is no break. Sounds like she's doing real well. Good job

I'm still working with my turkey to get his broken wing to heal. It's been a week now and he is improving I think but I won't know how much till we try to take the bandages off tonight and clean it again. The bone boke and pushed through the wing so it was tricky. Still not out of the woods

i've checked both legs and it doesn't feel like anythings broken ,,,it's hard to tell tho

i think her legs about finally healed up enough to put her back in the coop with all the others finally.....one question tho ...with her being in the house this long whats the chances shes gonna catch a cold when i put her back out in the cold coop with the rest chickens?
