Bad Experience with Bresse Farms in Pontotoc, MS

I hope everyone heeds the warnings and puts this guy out of business. I have no tolerance for terrible breeders and unfit conditions, health problems. The poor babies and I’m sure the hens are a mess. Vote with your money, folks, and try and find quality stock close by so you can see what’s up. Don’t get this guy another dollar.
I agree!

Oh jeez. Of course I'm finding all of this out now that I just put in an order for 50 "mix colored" Bresse yesterday
I think I'm just going to have to see what happens as I am not willing to take a 15% loss which is what the fee seems to be for canceling. Originally they are supposed to be shipped March 24th. I'll updated as things progress.

They are only supposed to be white ... "Colors" sounds more like "mixed breed mutts" ... But they will probably taste like chicken!
The website lists "American Bresse" that are white, then has separate listings for Black Bresse, Blue Bresse, and Splash Bresse, plus the "mixed" listing.

I find a wikipedia article that mentions "Bresse" being white chickens, raised in a certain area, of a breed that also comes in other colors such as black and splash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bresse_Gauloise

It sounds like the company is working with specific colors, a little more precise than "mixed breed mutts." And they could have gotten those colors without introducing any other breeds.

(No opinion about whether the company or the birds are any good, just speculating about the color aspect, and how it is possible to get those colors.)

You're right, my mistake ... From -

https://greenfirefarms.com/american_bresse.html it says
There are four varieties of Bresse: white, black, blue, and gray. The white variety is the best known and mirrors the red, white, and blue pattern of the French national flag with its large red comb, bright white feathers, and steel-blue legs. (As newly hatched chicks their legs are yellow.) Greenfire Farms has focused its efforts on curating this variety of Bresse. White Bresse produce a medium to large-size cream-colored egg.

However they have only imported the white variety ... So where, or how did the other color varieties get here?

As far as I know only Green fire has imported them ... As it's very time consuming and expensive to import .

Hmm, bressefarms says:
"Bresse are the only chickens in the world that are protected by government, don't worry ours were imported legally. "

(That's the Black Bresse page, but the same line is on the Blue Bresse page as well as the white one.)

But Greenfire Farms is saying,
"Greenfire Farms is the original and only importer of this extraordinary breed."
https://greenfirefarms.com/american_bresse.html

So maybe the colored ones hatched from white birds that trace back to some of the Greenfire imports? Or maybe someone used white birds from Greenfire and bred in something else to get colored ones? I'm definitely confused here. (I think I'll just give up on wondering about it. I don't care strongly enough to spend more time thinking or researching right now.)

Well, I know many have had bad experiences with Bresse farms. But I've gotta say, so far they haven't done any wrong by me. The original ship date was supposed to be late March(24th or 28th, something like that). I got an email and a text on Saturday that the shipping label was created. They sent them out Monday and I was able to pick them up this morning.

Now, I don't know ANYTHING about verifying breed or quality. But I ordered 50, I received 53 and they are all alive. The shipping box was nice and warm and had everything they needed. I have 30 that are just whitish/yellowish and 23 that are "splash" colored. I have no reason to believe these aren't splash Bresse chickens. I guess we shall see in the coming months. Maybe they have turned a new leaf at Bresse farms? Maybe I'm just ignorant. Who knows lol

Sorry for the poor pictures. I'm scrambling to get their real brooder set up as I was not as prepared as I should have been with them coming early.
