Bad news for bert

Well, went out today and let all the "emu kids" out in the yard to play...and it seems that Bert has developed Splay Leg? Poor guy...I taped his legs for the day and kept him out with the others in hopes that it may help it....but at the leg joints the bend inwards, and then the legs bend out and feet point outwards toward each side. I am going to give him through tomorrow, and then will probably have to put him down. So sad to see.

darn shame. Sao had it from the start so it was more of a when to do it. Getting attached then having that come up has got to be much tougher on you. Hope he gets straightend out soon.

yeah..it's gonna be tough to do...Bert is now 4 weeks old...we told our kids this morning that We had to put Bert down..because of his leg problems...they were all crying.

All Bert does is kind of push himself around while he sits...he doesn't even want to try to stand up. DANG. So today, I have to do the deed I guess.

Oh, this breaks my heart!.. I never thought that I would get so attached to my chickens and now the emu that we have. I hate that there are kids involved. This is the heartbreaking part of being a parent.... ((hUgs)) to all of your family, and to Bert..

So very sorry. I've corrected legs that splay some because of rolled toes before, but not the legs themselves........ heartbreaking.
