*bad news* Incubating Double Yolker Dies...

I sure hope this turns out better than most double yolkers.

Double yolk "twin" chicks aren't any different than siblings from different eggs. Because Identical twins form when a zygote is produced, divides, stops, and then continues as two different organisms. But in chickens the egg is fertilized, and put inside of an egg with a yolk. A double is caused when 2 separate zygotes are put into the same egg. In actuality, the fact that chickens are openly polygamous, means that there is a good chance that the two chicks could look different or even have different fathers. Really all you are doing is creating possible disappointment for yourself. But I do wish you luck and hope that the chicks live through.

Sounds great! We get a double yolker, I've been wondering about the chances. It's worth a try. Worth putting one in with every set. Each try is a chance for success. Best of luck, if this comes out good we all win.

trying to hatch a double yolk is kinda like you getting a small bean bag (kid size) unzipping it and pouring out all the beans and climbing in, Now once you are in the bag have your best friend climb in with you. Then when you are both in grab 2 beach balls and pull them in and then zip up the bag if you can and stay that way for about 7 days that would be what a double yolk is going to go threw before it hatchs if it makes it

that's kind of irrelevant.

For you and the egg. Only a month ago I had my own double yolker in the bator. It was a duck egg and they made it to day 27. I was more worried about the second duckling at the back of the egg- but it was the one in front that died first. The second one was in a good position to hatch and had even started tapping on the shell- but the one closer to the air cell had its head down and suffocated. So sad to get them so far and only hours away from hatch they died. But it was worth trying once for me.
