thanks for this advice. the hole he has made is fairly large, and he gets his beak right out. I don't think I could candle him without risking severe drop in temp and humidity for him and all the other eggs. I am going to try going back to the preschool in 2 hours to see if they will let me in and I will see if he/she has progressed at all. I wasn't too worried about drowning because of seeing the beak, but I am concerned that he/she hasn't started zipping to the right or left of the original pip yet.
