Bag out of Layena package (updated w tutorial)

I use mine @ the grocery store. I always tell them to load it up. It holds 50 pounds. They are not sure what to say. I used my bags instead of Christmas wrap for the quilts I gave family and friends. They almost liked the bags just as much as the quilts.

I'm collecting my bags now. I've got chicken feed and dog & cat food bags as well. Some are going to be next years Christmas gift for my Mom. She can't have chickens where she is, but has a collection of "chickens" in the kitchen.

But otherwise I want to learn the same things as you! Sadly my dad can make these totes but I've never tried, LOL

Now I'm wondering how to do the bottom. I want a specific area of the bag showing on the front/back, but I don't know how much bag it will take to make the bottom...so therefore I don't know how much extra to leave? I want to make a fancy-smancy bottom like the tutorial in the original post.

Well our first attempt at a squared bottom sucked

Not trying that again until we get a new sewing machine. Imagine trying to sew these daggum things with THIS. Ugh.

We broke a needle last night trying to sew through some layers. But like I said, our feed bags have a paper liner so it's much thicker.

I don't see how sewing with that would be any more difficult than using a new machine. But maybe that's because I never used a new machine, all I've ever sewn on is my mother's 1956 Singer that looks to work just like this one.

I don't know, I've only sewn with a new machine once. It just seems like they would make something that would cooperate with these bags a little better. But we're just starting out trying to make stuff out of feed bags, and we have barely used this machine, so maybe it will get better

It can be a challange sewing them, the older machines might be better.I just bought a heavy duty machine, does better,i would like to buy a heavy duty serger.I did find one but it was 220,soooooooooooooooono more big plugs in house and i do not know the cost to make it 110.
